The coil packs on the Audi A4 B7 2.0T have a tendency to fail and cause random misfires. Check with your Audi Dealer before purchasing new coils, as they may be covered under a recent recall. If you are not covered (or want/have to do it yourself), it’s much easier than you thought! Here is how.
- 2005–2009 Audi A4 B7 2.0T
- Flat-head Screwdriver
- Torx 20 (T20) Bit/Driver
Locate the coil pack(s) that you want to remove. Cylinder 1 is closest to the front of the car, and cylinder 4 is closest to the passenger compartment of the car.
Remove the two T20 screws that hold the coil pack harness to the engine block.
Gently pull the plastic tab on the connector away from the coil pack. While pulling, slide the connector off the coil pack. You can use the screwdriver to help if necessary, but take caution not to break the tab. Repeat for however many coil packs you are replacing.
Note: You may need to remove the coil pack harness from all (4) coil packs in order to remove a single coil.
Pull the coil pack vertically up from the cylinder. You may need to leverage the screwdriver to break the initial suction.
Replace the coil pack(s) with the new units and reinstall the connectors, making sure that they click into position. Reinstall the T20 screws and start the car to make sure it fires and runs smoothly.
You are done!
